Performance and Potential

So often as individuals and also as managers of others we end up focussing on the aspect of PERFORMANCE. We invest a lot of effort in continously raising the bar on Performance. Risghtfully so as in this age of instant gratification, what we wish to see is immediate results in the near term. Nothing bad at all. Am all for raising the bar and getting to "peak performance" levels.

Having said that, how often do we evaluate our true latent capabilities and push the envelope on our an our teams POTENTIAL? At birth , all of us are born gifted with many hidden talents and have "genius" of many kinds within us. Many of us, sadly, end our journey of life, from cradle to grave, without exploring and exploiting this "genius". We live our lives with a certain flavor of "mediocrity". Social and cultural aspects unfortunately help reinforce this and we get conditioned to tread on the beaten path. Without realising that all genius and superlative effort of numerous personalities before our times have all been possible by their ability to tap into their latent potential. If all of us were to truly focus on our true potential, and if we all help those around us to truly discover their potential and we do our bit to nurture their potential or at least not come in their way as hurdles, the world would be a far better place. Is our true purpose in the journey of life : from birth until death, this brief journey of just around 29000 days, not to stretch our minds and hearts to explore and exploit our truest potentials? And that of our fellow beings around us? Is that not what HE intended us to do in our lives?

Imagine a small colony , a village , town , city, country anywhere in the world , where this credo were to firmly take root.... that will be paradise on earth !!

Also, with a pure focus on Potential, better and superlative Performance naturally follows. So it is not one or the other. I believe that by unshackling our minds and hearts and as an unfettered soul, if all of us were to maximise our Potential and help those around us also to do so, Performance will surely be a side benefit.
